Miracle of Prayer by Eleanor Lewis
Prayer... To think the King of kings invites us into His glorious heavenly throne
room. He stretches out His scepter in welcome and never threatens to cut off our
heads or send us away. Though we are not worthy to stand in His presence He has
provided a relationship so we approach Him as Daddy. And He patiently listens (even
to our childish whining) and opens the store room of heaven answering beyond anything
we could ask or even think.
My son was born with a severe birth defect and had four major surgeries on his abdomen
before age two. When he was at Harvard Business School we received a most dreaded
call in the middle of the night. Travis was critically ill and an unknown surgeon
said He had to operate immediately. There was a major snow storm in Boston and the
airport was closed. 'All we could do was pray!' What a ridiculous statement, for
isn't calling upon the great Creator of the universe more than enough?
Though fearful we begged our 'Daddy' to be there even if we were not and to guide
the surgeon; however, the operation did not go well and, in addition, Travis developed
a severe staph infection.
Did that mean God didn't hear or answer? No, God answered powerfully by providing
a company car (my husband's employer was based in Boston) and the use of the company
apartment for one month. Travis was discharged from the hospital after exactly one
month!!! The infection required further surgeries and though left with a gaping
wound, the result was God turned bad to good. Travis graduated from school on time
and has enjoyed better health than before.
Sometimes God says 'yes' but sometimes He gently says 'no' or answers in a way that
may look wrong to us. At those times we must remember... His ways are much higher
than our ways and His thoughts than our thoughts so He rejects our limited requests
to give something far better. This Thanksgiving let's thank God for the miracle
of prayer!
