TAC Q & A with Art Vander Veen, Senior Copywriter
Hi Ladies!
When I originally wrote the workbooks for The Amazing Collection, I used somewhere between 1 and 2 dozen reference works for the material, particularly the 'factoids' found in the workbook margins. Therefore, finding the answers to your questions so many years after the fact requires a bit of detective work; locating the source, taking another step back in the process and doing additional research to come up with what the original writer meant and corroborate his statement.
#1. Big Dream: [this gets asked a lot] Philemon Day 2 'factoid' - "Philemon contains 8 words that occur nowhere else in Paul's letters, 5 of which occur nowhere else in the New Testament". What are they? We want to know this one!!
Art: The 3 words nowhere else in Paul's letters: "begotten" (1.10), "consent" (1.14), "lodging" (1.22)
The 5 nowhere else in the NT: "proper" (1.8), "aged" (1.9), "useless" (1.11), "charge" (1.18), "benefit" (1.20).
Be sure to remember that we are talking Greek words here not English. Both the English words "proper" and "useless" are used elsewhere but they are translations of different Greek words. A little tricky!
#2. Big Dream: Luke, Day 2 'factoid'- "Luke gave us the first 5 Christmas hymns". What are all 5?
Art: 'Angelus Ad Virginem' (Luke 1:28-31), 'Magnificat' (1:46-55), 'Benedictus' (1.68-79), 'Gloria in Excelsis' (2.14) and 'Nunc Dimittis' (2.29-32)
Hope these answers are a help to our most dedicated students of the Bible. Thanks, Art. |
